Pain always feels so lonely when in fact it can easily become a place of great companionship. This beautiful hymn really illustrates this concept. I hope you will really ponder on these words this week and let them sink deep into your heart. The testimony the writer bore in this song is so incredibly true and I know she desperately wants us all to remember their truth. It's almost if she is aching for us all to look up and remember that peace is always accessible through our Lord and Savior. He is the true authority on pain and understands every single aspect of this necessary experience. Why would you go to any other person for an understanding of your pain? There are plenty of self help gurus out there that say they specialize in solving your pain. When you think about it they only really know and understand a very small portion. I don't know about you, but I would rather reach towards someone that has a perfect, whole understanding of all facets of pain. For it is only through him that we can learn everything there is to know about our own pain and why it has come into our lives at that moment. That knowledge is powerful and extremely valuable. Something to be cherished and always grateful for.
What will you do with your pain today? I hope you will read these words and realize there really is nothing else to do with it but give it to our Savior. Pain is a signal to us that something is to be learned at that time. May we go to our loving teacher and humbly let him fill our minds with understanding so that we may grow. May we be excited for the opportunity to learn whenever it comes up.
Lyrics
- 1. Where can I turn for peace?
Where is my solace
When other sources cease to make me whole?
When with a wounded heart, anger, or malice,
I draw myself apart,
Searching my soul? - 2. Where, when my aching grows,
Where, when I languish,
Where, in my need to know, where can I run?
Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?
Who, who can understand?
He, only One. - 3. He answers privately,
Reaches my reaching
In my Gethsemane, Savior and Friend.
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching.
Constant he is and kind,
Love without end.
